The
curriculum of the courses contains a selection of topics
dealing with the design and management of hydraulic structures.
Practical aspects are emphasised by focussing on gaining
on hands on experience through computer simulations, field
and laboratory measurements, case studies, etc. A two weeks
field trip to the most significant hydraulic structures
and famous sites in Egypt is part of the curricula.
The
courses are held at the Regional Training Centre of the
Hydraulics Research Institute, Delta Barrage, Egypt, located
approximately 25 km North of Cairo. Full board accommodation
has been reserved at the International Centre for Management
Development at a walking distance from HRI. Participants
in the course are expected to stay in this convenient accommodation.
This centre offers good services, including recreational
facilities.
Candidates
who require financial assistance to cover all or part of
the cost of participation in the course are advised to explore
possibilities with their employer or national government.
If this is unsuccessful, HRI can be of assistance
in identifying possible sources. Each course-year a number
of fellowships are made available for participants from
Nile riparian countries as a donation of the Netherlands=
Government. Other possible sources include e.g. the EU,
UNDP, ECA, World Band, African Development Bank, UNESCO,
FAO and bilateral donors (Danida, CIDA, USAID, SIDA, FINNIDA,
NORAD etc.) often related to development projects in the
candidate=s home country.
