Climate change has an impact on water resources system in the Nile region, which may have a cascading effect. Economic sector which are projected to be most affected are agriculture (increased demand for irrigation), energy (reduced hydropower potential and cooling water availability), health, recreation, fisheries and navigation. NBNCBN recognize the important of studying this problem and its results on the Nile basin water resources.
As a result, NBCBN announces for a workshop on impacts of climate change on the water system for the Nile Basin. This workshop will be held on October 2008 Cairo, Egypt in which the NBCBN Multi-Disciplinary research proposal will be launched. More details about the participants, venue, and workshop program will come soon.

The Network will organizing a technical workshop in Cairo from 15-17 January 2008, on:
Modeling Tools for Different Aspects of River Engineering
(Application of SWAT Model in NBCBN Research Activities)
The main objectives of this workshop are:
- Introduce SWAT to a wider group of NBCBN researchers, to transfer the knowledge and experiences on the use of SWAT in different applications.
- Getting information on the recent applications and developments using the model worldwide and in the Nile Region.
- Hands on training on the model applications based on case studies of different research groups.
- Raising the capacity of the researchers on the use of modeling tools and creating common base of experience in applying SWAT in different water resources problems.
- Providing the research clusters with an open source modeling tool that could be efficiently used in research implementation
- Initiating new ideas for integrated research proposals between clusters based on SWAT application in the selected research topics.
The Target Group of this workshop is mainly the Research groups coordinators and number of NBCBN researchers who are involved in the modeling activities in different research clusters
