Regional Meeting
Part one: Cluster Research Activities
During the Regional part of the workshop
(the first two days), the participants discussed
in details the different proposal annexes:
The Main Conclusion were:
- To focus on only 3 annexes
for the cluster research
- To shift 3 other annexes
to be resubmitted as a concept note for
the integrated research
- For the last annex, it
was recommended to be proposed as local
action in the third day of the workshop
- It was agreed that the
concept notes will be disseminated to
the network clusters to receive commitments
from other clusters in joining those
proposals
The following table shows the titles of
the different annexes and its relevant research
modality.

National Meeting:
During the national meeting of the workshop
the participants were divided into two
groups to discuss the following
Group one: “Establishment
of the in-country network including its
proposed action plan”
Main points:
1.Main Roles for in-country network
- Linking Between Institutions & Professionals
in the water Sectors and other related
Sectors.
- In country network should
act as the coordination body for different
joint activities between different institutions
and professionals.
- Identify the gaps and
problems in the water sector.
- Capacity Building.
2. In Country Network Most Important Activities
- Capacity Building Activities
- Training
- Joint Research
- Conferences
- Development of in country
Information System
- Institutions
knowledge Map (Personal – Projects-institutions-
available fund and funded projects)
- In country
W.R. database
- Activating Egypt node
(in country network water resources
component on nbcbn web site)
- Dissemination of information
and awareness
- Meetings & workshops
- Developing
in country e-newsletters
- Financial Support
for local action
- Fund seeking
for local actions and other
activities
- Development of node
action plan
- Reporting for node
activities
3.In Country Network Structure

4.Urgent Needed Actions
- List
of institutes, universities,,…..
- Call for membership for different institutions, on the website, define date.
- Collect membership applications Select representatives and board members.
- Invitation by country coordinator for a local group meeting.
- Define Action in-country network plan “long term”.
Group two: “Identification
of the local action to be proposed by the
in-country network”
The second group and based on the input
from the brain storming clustered the important
topics for the local action in the following
list:
- IWRM
- Hydraulic Structures –Modeling
- Water Quality Management.
- Training (GIS, data sharing –modeling –river
dynamics )
- Community awareness& Involvement
- Water stress map
Based on detailed discussions the decision
have been made to choose the second topic
as most urgent for being addressed by the
local action. The detailed topic title was
selected to be “Developing
Numerical Model for optimum design of Stilling
Basin”. |
