The
Hydraulics Research Institute Regional Training Centre (HRI-
RTC) was established in 1995 as a response to, and
a reflection of, regional training needs in the sphere of
expertise appropriate to Hydraulics Research Institute (HRI).
The initiative to establish a regional training centre was
taken by the Egyptian Government with support of the Netherlands
and technical assistance by IHE - Delft.
The
course focuses on the practical training of those professionals
active in the various (semi-) governmental authorities,
institutes and projects dealing with water resources development
in the region who need a general upgrading in both theoretical
and hands-on experience.
The main target group for the training courses are (civil)
engineers with at least a B.Sc. degree and active in the
various (semi-) governmental authorities, research institutes,
universities, consultants and projects dealing with water
resources development in the region.
For this group of professionals a regular 3-months Diploma
Course is offered annually. The objective of this Diploma
Course on Hydraulic Engineering in River Basins is to increase
the understanding of natural river processes and the consequences
of human interventions in these processes. In addition the
course will contribute to the ability of hydraulic engineer
to design smaller but also larger structures in river and
channel systems. At the end of this course the participant
will be qualified to play a more prominent role in many
tasks dealing with the use of water resources in their countries.
In addition to the Diploma Course, short specialized courses
on different topics are organised for more senior engineers,
researchers and university lecturers with at least an M.Sc.
Degree and with more than 5-10 years of practical experience,
are organised annually.
