Training Workshop on
“Integrated Flood Management for the Nile Basin Countries”
23-27 November Nairobi, Kenya

Recognising the importance of IFM and the urgent need to be applied in all the Nile Basin countries, WMO in collaboration with NBCBN had taken the lead and organised a training Worksop on Integrated flood management (IFM) for the Nile Basin Countries in the period from 23 to 27th November 2009 Nairobi, Kenya. The first two days of the workshop aimed to disseminate the ideas and concepts of IFM, while the last three days of the workshop were dedicated for training of trainers’ sessions on IFM. The workshop was held in IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) Kenya, where the ten Nile Basin Countries participated in this training workshop.
The main workshop objective was to share, exchange and disseminates the ideas, experiences and concepts of IFM and to train the participants on the application of IFM in order to ably IFM in their home countries. Another objective was to equip participants with knowledge about available tools and methodologies to improve their flood management practices in their home institution.
 

Training of trainers on
IWRM as tool for climate change adaptation - acting today; preparing for tomorrow”  
20-24 October, 2008, Cairo

It was within the framework of the partnership collaborative programme between Cap-Net/UNDP and APFM/WMO to capacitate water professionals, capacity builders, local authorities and other stakeholders to adapt to changing climatic conditions, the Cap-Net/UNDP, HRI, and APFM/WMO organized a training of trainers’ course on IWRM as Tool for Adaptation to Climate Change - acting today, preparing for tomorrow – " in the period October 20 – 24, 2008, Cairo, Egypt

The aim of this course was to ensure that water managers and local authorities were able to apply sustainable water management principles and instruments to adapt to climate variability manifestations. The immediate objective was to train capacity builders manage and water professionals in IWRM as a tool for adaptation to climate change

The course was hosted by the Hydraulics Research Institute, host and member organisation of NBCBN. The course was part of Cap-Net global programme of action, of which NBCBN is an affiliated regional network. Coordination and content development were the responsibility of a team composed of NBCBN, UNESCO-IHE, WMO/APFM and Cap-Net. The course was intended for a total number of 25 participants from WA-Net, Nile/IWRMnet, NBCBN, Awarenet and WaterNet
