The period 2011-2012 was foreseen as a bridging period for the NBCBN in view of a new phase of capacity development for and with water professionals in the Nile basin. The period was used to keep some activities of the network going (selected research activities, one or two regional workshops), while strengthening and formalising the relationship with NBI. In March 2012 the MoA between NBI and NBCBN was signed during the 6th WWF in Marseille. The MoA addresses the mutual strengths, contributions and complementing strategies to support capacity building.
Within the extended bridging period, covering 2013, NBCBN-Sec has developed a Work plan that contains a minimum set of activities to continue the Network in view of a positive signal in 2013 for a continued phase of NBCBN.
The strategy of the Network in this period is to keep the network going on, to use the available cooperation and co-funding opportunities with partners who are interested in the proposed activities, and to concentrate on future strategic cooperation with NBI as the most important partner in the basin.
NBCBN-SEC office and the UNESCO-IHE management team have planned different capacity building activities; these activities will include the applied research as well as the training and knowledge sharing events. These activities include the following:
